2012 News & Events
There are many exciting events planned for the year in and around Hastings:
Our neighbour, the White Rock Theatre has a very exciting programme planned for 2012 - highlights include Jimmy Carr, Joan Armatrading and in March 2012 we are all looking forward to welcoming The Osmonds with our good friend Jimmy. In addition Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat featuring Any Dream will Do runner up Keith Jack is visiting in May and in February we have the histirical classics, Sense and Sensibility and Cranford. Not far along the coast in Bexhill the De la Warr Pavillion has a varied programme of shows, events and exhibitions.
On 17 March the exciting project to create a permanent home for The Jerwood Collection of British oil paintings and drawings come to fruition with the opening of The Jerwood Gallery on the Stade.
For the energetic now is the time to start training for Hastings Half Marathon 2012 which will take place on 25 March 2012-see below for General Manager Laurence in 2009-look out for members of the White Rock Hotel team. If you stay in the Hotel on Saturday 24 March, we are offering a 25% discount on a second night-this can be Friday or Sunday. Please call or e-mail to take advantage.
Later in the year we have numerous festivals including the May Bank Holiday Weekend Jack in the Green Festival, Pirates Day, and many others and this year we have the Olympic torch stopping in town on 17 July before the big event starts a few weeks later.

Saturday 28 July sees the start of Hastings Old Town Carnival,Hastings and St Leonards Hreritage Open Days weekend takes place at the beginning of September and is followed by the Seafood and Wine Festival over the weekend of 15 September and Hastings Week starts on Saturday 6 October culminating in the Procession and Fireworks on 13 October.
The Coastal Currents Art Festival straddles the month of September, with a wide range of displays and performances.
Starting just after Christmas is Hastings International Chess Congress-the oldest and most prestigious chess tournament in the world.

Early in the morning of 5 October 2010 Hastings Pier burnt down. From our ring-side seats we were able to watch the events unfold and witness the valliant efforts of the emergency services to save the historic pier, but unfortumately 95% of the buildings were lost. Things have now moved on, compulsory purchase of the structure should take place early in 2012 and substantial works commence on rebuilding a new 21 st century Pier using the existing structure following the sucessful bid by Hastings Pier and White Rock Trust to the Heritage Lottery Fund.
Things to do
Camber Sands, just along the coast from Hastings, is one of the top venues for Kite Surfing - check out The Kitesurf Centre for details.
Dog lovers should make sure they visit Collared a new pet acessory and gift shop, just down the road from the Hotel, as well as the other funky shops and cafes in the America Ground
